The Roommate Situation
by Felicity Snow
Rory
Coming home to find my boyfriend in bed with another guy is not how I expected my birthday to go.
When my two best friends find out, they help me with moving my things out of the apartment and trying to find a new roommate. In the meantime they take me out to get my mind off Zach and get laid. I’m really not sure I’m up for it, but I let them drag me out anyway.
I’m not exactly the cream of the crop when it comes to the dating pool, and all of the messages I’ve been getting from Zach since I broke it off with him are only solidifying that in my mind.
To my surprise though, not only does a guy notice me, he’s got to be the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. But when I finally gather my courage and try to spice things up with him, it goes horribly wrong and I run away mortified and in tears. My only saving grace is that I’ll probably never see him again.
But then I see a response to my ad looking for a roommate, and when I show up to meet the guy the following day and take a look at the apartment, who should answer the door but Hottie McHotness himself.
Just shoot me now.
Parker
When I spotted the adorable little twink in the bow tie and suspenders at the club I was instantly attracted to him. All that wavy brown hair and the cute as hell glasses. But when he runs away in tears, I’m terrified I’ve done something to upset him, and I don’t know how to make it right.
When he shows up at my doorstep the following day and I realize he’s my potential new roommie I can’t believe my luck. He seems nervous and shy, but so sweet.
The more time we’re together, the more I realize what a number his turd of an ex did on him, and I’m determined to make sure he knows how amazing he really is, and that he deserves someone who will appreciate and care for him.
As the weeks go on I’m hoping more and more that that someone can be me.

Felicity Snow's The Roommate Situation is a delightful exploration of love, self-discovery, and healing, wrapped in a narrative that is both heartwarming and humorous. The book deftly navigates the complexities of relationships and personal growth, making it a compelling read for fans of contemporary romance.
At the heart of the story is Rory, a character whose journey begins with heartbreak and betrayal. Discovering his boyfriend, Zach, in bed with another man on his birthday is a devastating blow, and Snow captures Rory's emotional turmoil with sensitivity and depth. This initial setup is crucial as it sets the stage for Rory's transformation throughout the novel. His vulnerability is palpable, and readers will find themselves rooting for him as he navigates the aftermath of his breakup.
Rory's character development is one of the book's strongest elements. Initially, he is portrayed as insecure and self-doubting, largely due to the toxic relationship with Zach. However, as the story progresses, Rory begins to reclaim his self-worth and confidence. This transformation is facilitated by his interactions with Parker, the other protagonist, who is introduced as Rory's potential new roommate.
Parker is a refreshing contrast to Rory's ex. He is kind, patient, and genuinely interested in Rory's well-being. Snow does an excellent job of developing Parker's character, making him more than just a love interest. His backstory and motivations are well fleshed out, and his determination to help Rory see his own value is both touching and inspiring. The chemistry between Rory and Parker is electric, and their interactions are filled with both tension and tenderness.
The theme of self-discovery is prevalent throughout the novel. Rory's journey is not just about finding love again but also about rediscovering himself. The narrative emphasizes the importance of self-love and acceptance, and Snow handles this theme with grace and nuance. Rory's growth is gradual and realistic, making his eventual confidence feel earned and authentic.
Another significant theme in the book is the healing power of friendship. Rory's best friends play a crucial role in his recovery, providing support and encouragement when he needs it most. Their unwavering loyalty and humor add depth to the story, and their interactions with Rory are some of the most enjoyable parts of the book. Snow captures the essence of true friendship, highlighting its importance in overcoming life's challenges.
Snow's writing style is engaging and accessible, with a perfect balance of humor and emotion. The dialogue is witty and realistic, and the pacing is well-maintained throughout the book. The author has a knack for creating vivid and relatable characters, and this is evident in both the main and supporting cast.
In terms of its impact, The Roommate Situation is a story that resonates with anyone who has experienced heartbreak and the journey to self-acceptance. It is a reminder that love can be found in unexpected places and that healing is possible with the right support. The book's positive message and relatable characters make it a standout in the genre.
Comparatively, The Roommate Situation shares similarities with other contemporary romances that focus on themes of self-discovery and healing, such as Alexis Hall's Boyfriend Material and Casey McQuiston's Red, White & Royal Blue. Like these novels, Snow's book combines humor, romance, and emotional depth to create a story that is both entertaining and meaningful. However, Snow's unique voice and the specific dynamics between Rory and Parker set it apart, offering readers a fresh perspective on familiar themes.
In conclusion, Felicity Snow's The Roommate Situation is a charming and heartfelt novel that will appeal to fans of contemporary romance. Its well-developed characters, engaging plot, and positive themes make it a must-read for anyone looking for a story about love, friendship, and personal growth. Whether you're a longtime fan of the genre or new to it, this book is sure to leave a lasting impression.
