Sway's Peace
by Talia Rhea
Delivery Details: One male of the xenom species, to be delivered safely back to his home planet.
The Humility is finally getting its much needed overhaul. Repairs that are long overdue. Which is a problem for Sway as, without work, his mind is now free to torment him with memories. Disquiet that haunts his every thought and makes living this new, peaceful life difficult. Until he hears her voice. The most beautiful sound in the cosmos. Calling his name. Tempting him in with such a sweet, irresistible call.
The only thought on Grace’s mind when she comm’s the incoming delivery ship Humility is how she’s going to get that rusted hunk of bolts repaired and on its way again. She’s been living off Earth and in Coalition space for years now, since she followed a friend as her sponsor off of the moon. She doesn’t regret a thing about leaving. Out here, away from the constant criticism that marked her life before, she feels like maybe she can be good enough for herself. Until that farasie guy comes and suddenly everything is going wrong.
And no, it’s not his fault her boss turned out to be a pig, or that she’s now homeless and trapped on a station her boss controls. It’s a crappy hand she was dealt for standing up for a xenom male who did nothing.
Luckily, her new farasie friend works for a delivery company that are willing to offer them both a ride. Though Grace isn’t sure where she’s even going to be going from here, she doesn’t actually mind going along with Sway and whatever this is between them.
Sway refuses to look back to his past. Refuses to dwell on those memories. The only thing he wants is peace. But those memories have come catching up to him, and now, along with everything, he’s dealing with someone he never expected to see again. His father.
Sway’s Peace is the second in the Delivery Service series. It is a MF romance with a HEA and a complete story between the leads. Though each story can be read as a standalone, this series is best read in order. Tropes and trigger page inside.

Talia Rhea's Sway's Peace, the second installment in the Delivery Service series, offers a compelling blend of science fiction and romance, set against the backdrop of interstellar travel and personal redemption. This novel, while part of a series, stands robustly on its own, providing a complete narrative arc that is both satisfying and thought-provoking.
The story begins with Sway, a character whose internal struggles are as vast as the cosmos he traverses. The Humility, his delivery ship, is undergoing much-needed repairs, leaving Sway with ample time to confront the ghosts of his past. Rhea skillfully uses this downtime to delve into Sway's psyche, exploring themes of trauma, memory, and the quest for peace. The author’s portrayal of Sway’s internal conflict is nuanced, capturing the essence of a man haunted by his past yet yearning for tranquility. This exploration of Sway’s character is one of the novel’s strengths, as it provides a deep, introspective look at how past experiences shape our present selves.
Enter Grace, a character who brings a refreshing dynamic to the narrative. Her introduction is marked by a sense of independence and resilience, having left Earth to find her own path in Coalition space. Grace’s character is a testament to the theme of self-discovery and empowerment. Her journey from a life of criticism to one of self-acceptance is both relatable and inspiring. Rhea crafts Grace with a complexity that makes her more than just a romantic interest; she is a fully realized character with her own motivations and challenges.
The chemistry between Sway and Grace is palpable from their first interaction. Rhea excels in building their relationship with a slow burn that feels authentic and earned. The dialogue between them is sharp and engaging, filled with moments of humor and vulnerability that add depth to their connection. As their relationship develops, it becomes a vehicle for exploring broader themes of trust, healing, and the courage to embrace the unknown.
One of the novel’s most compelling aspects is its setting. The interstellar backdrop is richly imagined, with Rhea’s attention to detail bringing the universe to life. The Coalition space, with its diverse species and cultures, provides a vibrant and dynamic setting that enhances the story’s themes of diversity and acceptance. The Humility itself becomes a character of sorts, symbolizing both the physical and emotional journey of its occupants.
Rhea’s writing is both evocative and accessible, striking a balance between detailed world-building and character-driven storytelling. Her ability to weave together elements of science fiction and romance is seamless, creating a narrative that appeals to fans of both genres. The pacing is well-executed, with moments of tension and introspection interspersed with action and adventure.
The novel also introduces a subplot involving Sway’s father, adding another layer of complexity to the story. This subplot serves as a catalyst for Sway’s character development, forcing him to confront unresolved issues from his past. Rhea handles this aspect of the story with sensitivity, exploring themes of forgiveness and reconciliation without resorting to clichés.
In comparison to other works in the genre, Sway's Peace stands out for its character-driven narrative and emotional depth. While it shares thematic similarities with other science fiction romances, such as the exploration of identity and belonging, Rhea’s novel distinguishes itself through its focus on personal growth and healing. Fans of authors like Linnea Sinclair and Ann Aguirre will find much to appreciate in Rhea’s approach to storytelling.
Overall, Sway's Peace is a captivating read that offers a perfect blend of romance and science fiction. Its exploration of complex themes, coupled with well-developed characters and a richly imagined setting, makes it a standout in the genre. Whether you are a fan of the series or new to Rhea’s work, this novel is sure to leave a lasting impression.
For readers seeking a story that combines the thrill of interstellar adventure with the intimacy of a heartfelt romance, Sway's Peace delivers on all fronts. It is a testament to Talia Rhea’s skill as a storyteller and her ability to craft narratives that resonate on both an emotional and intellectual level.
