Stuck with Me
by LeAnne August
A snowed-in cabin at New Year’s. Two enemies. An arrangement to keep our hands to ourselves.
My favorite week of the year is the one between Christmas and New Year’s when my friends and I head to Grandma Gigi’s cabin in the mountains of Maple Ridge, Colorado. Since losing Gigi earlier this year, I need this week of snow, campfires, spiked eggnog, and strip UNO more than ever to get me through the holiday season.
But when a stranger strolls into town claiming he owns half of the cabin and decides to crash our festivities, I go from jolly St. Nick to The Grinch. Nico Moretti is a cattle rancher from Texas. He’s all legs and solid muscle. Which makes it harder to hate him. Except he’s trying to take away the only thing I have left of Gigi. The cabin.
Nico knows exactly how to push my buttons. Between my sass and his dirty mouth, we can’t resist the temptation any longer. We come up with an arrangement: one and done. Just once to get it out of our systems. Except when the power goes out and we get snowed-in, delaying the arrival of my friends, our arrangement becomes agonizing. We tease, toe the boundary line, and get creative.
Baby, it’s cold outside, but inside the cabin, things are scorching!
We discover secrets from the past. The summer fling between my grandma and Nico’s granddad was more than that. They had an epistolary love affair that spanned over five decades. Will we repeat their mistakes? Or will we take a chance and make the novelty of love our New Year’s resolution?

Stuck with Me by LeAnne August is a charming romantic comedy that explores the unpredictable journey of finding love in the most unexpected places. The novel follows Molly Whitman and Adam Blake, who, due to a reservation mix-up, find themselves roommates in a cozy, picturesque cabin during a snowy Colorado winter. What starts as an inconvenient situation soon transforms into an enchanting, heart-warming story about connection, resilience, and the sparks that fly when opposites attract.
The author, LeAnne August, does a remarkable job crafting a setting that feels both idyllic and realistic. The cabin, with its crackling fireplace and stunning views, serves as the perfect backdrop for the unfolding romance. It's picturesque yet confined, compelling the characters to confront their differences and similarities. The isolation and proximity allow for a detailed exploration of their personalities and evolving relationship, which August captures with depth and nuance.
Molly Whitman, the female protagonist, is an independent and career-focused photographer, nurturing her own wounds from past relationships. Her character is beautifully developed, revealing layers of vulnerability and strength. She's not just a love interest but a protagonist who holds her own story, desires, and fears. On the other hand, Adam Blake is a charismatic but somewhat reserved artist who keeps his emotions guarded. His complex relationship with his art and his family adds a compelling depth to his character, making him more than just a typical romantic lead.
The chemistry between Molly and Adam is palpable from their first encounter. The dialogue August crafts is witty and full of tension, epitomizing the push and pull of a budding romance. Their interactions range from playful banter to profound conversations, striking an excellent balance that keeps the reader engaged and invested in their relationship. The slow-burn romance is skilfully executed, building anticipation and making their moments of vulnerability and tenderness all the more impactful.
Aside from the central romance, Stuck with Me provides insightful commentary on personal growth and healing. Each protagonist has a back story filled with obstacles and pain that they must address before fully opening up to each other. This element of personal development enriches the narrative, adding a layer of authenticity and relatability to the story. Their emotional journeys are portrayed with both sincerity and sensitivity, emphasizing that love is not just about finding the right person but also about being ready to love and be loved.
The supporting cast of characters, including the nosy yet endearing locals and Molly’s vibrant best friend, adds color and humor to the story. They not only contribute to the book's lighter moments but also play crucial roles in the growth of the protagonists, offering perspectives and advice that guide Molly and Adam toward each other. The dynamic between the main and supporting characters is organic and adds a layer of community and interconnectedness to the story, reminding readers that relationships do not exist in a vacuum.
LeAnne August's writing style is engaging and fluid, making Stuck with Me a pleasure to read. Her ability to describe settings in vivid detail transports readers directly into the snowy sanctuary of the Colorado cabin. Moreover, her portrayal of emotions is genuine, allowing the reader to feel every heartbeat and sigh of the characters.
In conclusion, Stuck with Me is a delightful romantic comedy that ticks all the boxes. With its heartfelt romance, rich character development, and engaging narrative, it is a story that not only entertains but resonates. LeAnne August has woven a tale of love, laughter, and self-discovery that urges the reader to root for Molly and Adam not just to fall in love, but to find themselves in the process. It is a perfect read for those who enjoy romances set in secluded, enchanting settings and stories that explore the beauty of unexpected companionships forming under the most unconventional circumstances.
This book is recommended for readers who revel in character-driven narratives and anyone looking for a cozy, uplifting read to curl up with on a cold winter's night.
