Matchmaking Under the Mistletoe
by Hollie Luckie
Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, but I guess you could say this December is not exactly going the way I hoped.
After divorcing my cheating ex-husband, I’m determined to get out of the city and find a fresh start. Unfortunately, fate has other plans, and I find myself caught in a bizarre snowstorm and wind up totaling my vehicle, which means I’m stranded in the small town of Springside, Alabama for the holidays.
Thankfully, one of the local townspeople comes to my rescue and calls in a favor with the mayor. When Mayor Brian Jones offers me a job planning the annual Christmas events at Deer Valley Inn, I don’t really see any reason to say no.
Between organizing the Midnight Mistletoe Maze to coordinating the annual Gingerbread Gala, I have my hands full with all the holiday cheer. Despite the fact that I’m definitely not looking for a relationship, I can’t seem to stop thinking about my hot new boss, especially when random accidents keep forcing us to spend more time together.
Ending up in Springside wasn’t at the top of my Christmas list, but the more time I spend with Brian I can’t help but wonder if a happily ever after might be in my future after all.

Hollie Luckie's Matchmaking Under the Mistletoe is a delightful holiday romance that captures the magic of Christmas and the unexpected turns life can take. Set against the charming backdrop of Springside, Alabama, this novel offers a heartwarming tale of love, redemption, and the power of new beginnings.
The story begins with our protagonist, who is reeling from a recent divorce. Her life in the city has been upended, and she is in search of a fresh start. However, her plans take an unexpected detour when a snowstorm leaves her stranded in the quaint town of Springside. This twist of fate sets the stage for a series of events that are both humorous and touching.
Luckie does an excellent job of creating a vivid setting that feels both cozy and inviting. The small-town charm of Springside is palpable, and the festive atmosphere of the Christmas season is beautifully woven into the narrative. From the Midnight Mistletoe Maze to the Gingerbread Gala, the holiday events are described with such detail that readers can almost hear the jingling of bells and smell the gingerbread in the air.
One of the novel's strengths lies in its character development. The protagonist is a relatable and well-rounded character whose journey of self-discovery is both engaging and inspiring. Her initial reluctance to embrace the holiday spirit gradually gives way to a newfound appreciation for the joys of Christmas, mirroring her personal growth and healing process.
Mayor Brian Jones, the protagonist's unexpected employer and love interest, is a character who exudes warmth and charisma. His genuine kindness and dedication to the town's holiday celebrations make him an endearing figure. The chemistry between the protagonist and Brian is palpable, and their interactions are filled with both tension and tenderness. Luckie skillfully builds their relationship, allowing it to develop naturally over the course of the story.
The novel also explores themes of forgiveness and second chances. The protagonist's journey is not just about finding love but also about forgiving herself and moving forward from past mistakes. This theme is subtly woven into the narrative, adding depth to the story and making it resonate with readers who may have experienced similar struggles.
In terms of pacing, Matchmaking Under the Mistletoe strikes a perfect balance between lighthearted moments and more introspective scenes. The plot moves at a steady pace, with enough twists and turns to keep readers engaged without feeling rushed. The random accidents that bring the protagonist and Brian together add an element of unpredictability, keeping the story fresh and exciting.
Comparatively, Luckie's novel shares similarities with other holiday romances, such as Debbie Macomber's Christmas Wishes or Jenny Hale's Coming Home for Christmas. Like these authors, Luckie captures the essence of the holiday season and the transformative power of love. However, what sets Matchmaking Under the Mistletoe apart is its focus on personal growth and the idea that sometimes, the best gifts are the ones we least expect.
Overall, Matchmaking Under the Mistletoe is a charming and uplifting read that will appeal to fans of holiday romances and anyone looking for a feel-good story. Hollie Luckie's ability to create relatable characters and a captivating setting makes this novel a standout in the genre. As the protagonist discovers, sometimes the most unexpected detours lead to the most beautiful destinations.
