High Roller
by Ivy Nelson
Lili
I married Phineas Draven because my father said it was a good political match, but he’s a monster and I want out. After discovering his affair with my best friend, I plan to squander his wealth in Vegas’s most luxurious casino before filing for divorce. But an irresistibly persuasive pit boss tempts me into a night of revenge that leaves me disoriented and disrobed with a gun to my head. Then I meet Grace – she adores my kidnapper – so why am I so drawn to her?
Victor
Phineas Draven has been a thorn in our side for too long. Abducting his wife Lili seems like the perfect retaliation – after one fiery night together. Enlisting Gracie, my best friend and fellow High Card employee, to hide Lili was reckless – especially as she grows fond of our captive and her soft heart threatens what we’ve built. Accusations of jealousy from the other High Card owners catch me off guard; could they be right that I’m falling for both women? Not exactly convenient when we’re fighting a war to keep our empire and our lives.
Gracie
I came to Las Vegas for Victor – he may be ruthless but he’s never violent with me. He must know I love him. When asked to hide Lili – clad only in Victor’s coat – it shatters my heart but I comply and keep an eye on her. I don’t like seeing my family threatened. As we spend time together, Lili doesn’t resemble the monster Phineas is; she feels like another pawn in this dangerous game just like me. I’ve always known I was bisexual, but falling for both Victor and Lili is dragging up ghosts from my past that I thought were behind me for good, and I find myself caught between two loves and praying for a solution.
Author’s Note: High Roller is part one of a two part duet that will conclude the Sin City Suits series.

Ivy Nelson's "High Roller" is a tantalizing foray into the world of high-stakes drama, passion, and intrigue, set against the vibrant backdrop of Las Vegas. As the first installment of the Sin City Suits series, this novel sets the stage for a complex narrative that intertwines themes of power, betrayal, and unexpected romance.
The story is primarily driven by its three protagonists: Lili, Victor, and Gracie, each bringing their own unique perspectives and emotional baggage to the table. Lili, the wife of the unscrupulous Phineas Draven, is a character caught in a web of political machinations and personal betrayal. Her decision to escape the clutches of her unfaithful husband by indulging in a night of reckless abandon in Vegas is both a cry for freedom and an act of defiance. Lili's journey is one of self-discovery, as she navigates the treacherous waters of love and loyalty, all while grappling with the consequences of her actions.
Victor, on the other hand, is a character shrouded in mystery and danger. His motivations for abducting Lili are initially rooted in revenge against Phineas, but as the story unfolds, his feelings become more complicated. Victor's internal conflict is palpable, as he struggles with his growing attraction to both Lili and Gracie. His character is a study in contrasts—ruthless yet vulnerable, calculating yet passionate. Nelson does an excellent job of peeling back the layers of Victor's personality, revealing a man torn between his ambitions and his heart.
Gracie, the third point in this intricate love triangle, adds another layer of complexity to the narrative. Her loyalty to Victor is unwavering, yet her burgeoning feelings for Lili introduce a new dynamic that challenges her perceptions of love and fidelity. Gracie's bisexuality is portrayed with sensitivity and depth, providing a refreshing perspective on the fluidity of love and attraction. Her internal struggle with past ghosts and present desires is both poignant and relatable, making her a character that readers can empathize with.
One of the most compelling aspects of "High Roller" is its exploration of the theme of power dynamics. The relationships between the characters are fraught with tension, as each one grapples with their own desires and the expectations placed upon them by society and themselves. Lili's initial role as a pawn in her father's political games and Victor's strategic maneuvering to maintain control of his empire highlight the often-blurred lines between personal agency and manipulation. Nelson deftly navigates these themes, creating a narrative that is both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant.
The setting of Las Vegas serves as a fitting backdrop for this tale of high-stakes drama. The city's glitz and glamour are juxtaposed with the darker undercurrents of its casino culture, reflecting the dual nature of the characters' lives. Nelson's vivid descriptions of the opulent casinos and the seedy underbelly of Vegas add depth to the story, immersing readers in a world where fortunes can change in the blink of an eye.
In terms of character development, Nelson excels at crafting multi-dimensional characters who evolve over the course of the narrative. Lili's transformation from a submissive wife to a woman who takes control of her destiny is particularly noteworthy. Her interactions with Victor and Gracie serve as catalysts for her growth, pushing her to confront her fears and embrace her true self. Similarly, Victor's journey from a man driven by revenge to one who is capable of love and vulnerability is both compelling and satisfying.
Comparatively, "High Roller" shares thematic similarities with other works in the romantic suspense genre, such as Sylvia Day's "Crossfire" series or J.R. Ward's "The Bourbon Kings." Like these novels, Nelson's work delves into the complexities of love, power, and betrayal, while also offering a fresh take on the genre with its unique setting and diverse characters.
Overall, "High Roller" is a captivating start to the Sin City Suits series, offering readers a thrilling blend of romance, suspense, and drama. Ivy Nelson's ability to weave intricate plots with well-developed characters makes this novel a must-read for fans of the genre. As the first part of a duet, it leaves readers eagerly anticipating the conclusion, promising more twists and turns in the high-stakes world of Las Vegas.
In conclusion, "High Roller" is a testament to Ivy Nelson's skill as a storyteller, combining rich character development with a gripping narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Whether you're a fan of romantic suspense or simply looking for a compelling read, this novel is sure to deliver an unforgettable experience.
