She’s never had a real job, a boyfriend, or any close friends. What she does have is a great aunt who needs her help, so she’s packing up her life into a suitcase and heading to the city.
On paper, Kasen Saddler seemingly has a great life. He has a wonderful, doting grandmother, great friends and neighbors, the perfect apartment, and a job he loves. After staying with his grandmother for a few months, he’s home and starting to realize his secret traumatic past might be holding him back. But this former military special operations soldier isn’t quite brave enough to confront his fears…that is until a certain woman turns up in his apartment building’s hallway trying to find her aunt’s missing necklace.
What starts as a hunt for Piper’s aunt’s necklace, soon turns into Kasen agreeing to give the relationship clueless Piper dating lessons. There’s only one problem. The more time Kasen spends with Piper, the more he doesn’t want to stop helping her as a “practice” boyfriend.
Piper knows there’s more to Kasen than he’s willing to share. She wishes their relationship could be real. She also wishes she could stay and spend more time with all the new friends that she’s made in the building. But her time is running out. She’s already agreed to stay with her dad.
Will the secretive Kasen let himself finally find romance with the unlikely woman who fell into his world and stole his heart, or will Piper leave before they both realize what was pretend to begin with turned into something very real?

S.E. Rose's Finding Romance is a delightful exploration of self-discovery, love, and the complexities of human relationships. The novel deftly intertwines the lives of two seemingly disparate characters, Piper Dawson and Kasen Saddler, each grappling with their own personal challenges and pasts. Through their journey, Rose crafts a narrative that is both heartwarming and thought-provoking, making it a compelling read for fans of contemporary romance.
At the heart of the story is Piper Dawson, a recent art school graduate who finds herself at a crossroads. Her life is in a state of flux, as she navigates the uncertainties of post-graduation life while living with her mother. Piper's character is relatable to anyone who has ever faced the daunting task of figuring out their next steps in life. Her lack of a clear career path, romantic experiences, and close friendships paints a picture of a young woman on the brink of self-discovery. Piper's decision to help her great aunt in the city becomes a catalyst for change, setting the stage for her transformative journey.
In contrast, Kasen Saddler appears to have it all together. On the surface, his life seems perfect, complete with a loving grandmother, supportive friends, and a fulfilling job. However, beneath this facade lies a man haunted by a traumatic past. Kasen's character is a testament to the idea that appearances can be deceiving, and that everyone carries their own burdens. His reluctance to confront his fears adds depth to his character, making him a compelling figure in the narrative.
The chemistry between Piper and Kasen is palpable from their first encounter. Their initial meeting, sparked by the search for Piper's aunt's missing necklace, sets the tone for their evolving relationship. What begins as a simple agreement for Kasen to give Piper dating lessons soon blossoms into something more profound. The progression of their relationship is beautifully portrayed, with each character learning and growing from their interactions with the other.
One of the novel's standout themes is the concept of self-discovery. Both Piper and Kasen embark on journeys of introspection, confronting their fears and insecurities. Piper's journey is particularly poignant, as she learns to embrace her individuality and artistic talents. Her growth is mirrored by Kasen, who gradually opens up about his past and learns to let go of his fears. This theme of self-discovery is a powerful reminder of the importance of understanding oneself before finding love with another.
Another significant theme is the idea of found family. The residents of Kasen's apartment building become an integral part of Piper's life, offering her the friendship and support she has longed for. This sense of community adds warmth to the narrative, highlighting the importance of connections and the impact they can have on one's life. The friendships Piper forms are a testament to the idea that family is not always defined by blood, but by the bonds we create with others.
Rose's writing is both engaging and evocative, drawing readers into the world she has created. Her ability to craft relatable characters and realistic scenarios adds authenticity to the story. The dialogue is witty and natural, capturing the nuances of human interaction. Rose's portrayal of Piper and Kasen's relationship is particularly noteworthy, as it avoids the clichés often found in romance novels, instead offering a fresh and genuine depiction of love.
In comparison to other contemporary romance novels, Finding Romance stands out for its focus on character development and emotional depth. While many romance stories rely heavily on plot-driven narratives, Rose prioritizes the growth and evolution of her characters. This approach is reminiscent of authors like Jojo Moyes and Colleen Hoover, who also excel in creating emotionally resonant stories with well-developed characters.
Overall, Finding Romance is a captivating read that will resonate with anyone who has ever faced the challenges of self-discovery and love. S.E. Rose has crafted a story that is both entertaining and meaningful, offering readers a glimpse into the complexities of human relationships. The novel's themes of self-discovery, found family, and the transformative power of love make it a standout in the contemporary romance genre.
For readers seeking a romance novel that goes beyond the surface, Finding Romance is a must-read. Its blend of humor, heart, and authenticity ensures that it will leave a lasting impression long after the final page is turned.
