Collateral Omega
by Hope Mae
Holi
Holi is a sweet and sheltered omega who dreams of meeting a wealthy alpha to bond with. His omega father does everything in his power to bring that dream to pass, even though their poor status doesn’t allow. Holi gets a wakeup call about how bad his family situation is when his omega father dies, and the creditors come calling. Including him… the devil alpha who has a piece of paper that said he owned him.
Apparently, his father used him as collateral for every credit he ever borrowed from the Covus family.
Holi runs.
He wasn’t going to allow an uncouth, dominating, and aggressive beast to be his alpha. But in a world where omegas have no rights, he can’t run far.
To stay on the run, Holi does everything in his power to move from commune to commune and work his fingers to the bone – saving every credit he makes to pay off his father’s debt and free himself.
Things don’t go as planned. Calamity follows him everywhere. Not only does he lose his jobs, work for unbearable alphas, he gets robbed and is kicked out of the commune house.
Homeless and jobless, Holi has no choice but to go to him, the devil alpha – to strike a deal that will change his life forever.
Xaine
Xaine hates everything about being an aggressive alpha. He is possessive, obsessive, massive, rough and short on patience or anything resembling emotions. Aggressive alphas like him require too much from an omega. And finding one to share his heats is a challenge. Omegas give him a wide berth and call him the devil and it doesn’t help that he is the head of the Covus family –a family known for its shady deals when his dad was still alive.
Xaine inherited a lot of those shady deals though he tries his best to stay away from it all, but his family’s past follows him everywhere. When the council of alphas declares that aggressive alphas should be monitored and medicated, Xaine is happy. He can finally feel normal. But the medication doesn’t work the way he thought it would.
When an incident has him banned for a year from all the service omega agencies on the planet, he knows he has a problem. And does something he never thought he would do – he uses one of his dad’s shady deals to blackmail an innocent omega to become his service omega for a year.
A big mistake.
When the omega runs, the alpha in him takes it as a challenge. Xaine does everything to make Holi’s life a living hell. And he’ll never stop until he makes Holi his.

Hope Mae's Collateral Omega is a compelling exploration of power dynamics, societal constraints, and personal redemption set in a world where the roles of alphas and omegas are rigidly defined. This novel delves into the lives of Holi, a vulnerable omega, and Xaine, an aggressive alpha, whose paths cross under the most unfortunate circumstances. The story is a gripping narrative that combines elements of romance, drama, and social commentary, making it a standout in the omegaverse genre.
At the heart of the novel is Holi, a character whose journey is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. Holi's life is turned upside down when he discovers that his father, in a desperate attempt to secure financial stability, has used him as collateral for debts owed to the notorious Covus family. This revelation sets off a chain of events that forces Holi to confront the harsh realities of his world. Mae does an excellent job of portraying Holi's transformation from a sheltered and naive omega to a determined and resilient individual. His struggle to maintain his autonomy in a society that offers him little agency is both poignant and relatable.
On the other side of the spectrum is Xaine, the alpha who is both feared and misunderstood. Xaine's character is a fascinating study of the burdens of inherited power and the struggle for self-acceptance. Despite his intimidating exterior, Xaine is a character who grapples with his identity and the expectations placed upon him by his family's legacy. Mae skillfully peels back the layers of Xaine's persona, revealing a man who is caught between his nature and his desire for normalcy. His journey towards understanding and accepting his true self is a central theme of the novel, and it is handled with nuance and sensitivity.
The relationship between Holi and Xaine is the driving force of the narrative. Their initial interactions are fraught with tension and mistrust, as Holi is forced into a situation where he must rely on the very person he seeks to escape. Mae expertly navigates the complexities of their relationship, allowing it to evolve from one of coercion and resentment to a deeper understanding and mutual respect. The chemistry between the two characters is palpable, and their gradual bond is both believable and satisfying.
Mae's world-building is another highlight of the novel. The societal structure she creates is intricate and well-developed, providing a rich backdrop for the story. The rigid hierarchy and the lack of rights for omegas are depicted with stark realism, serving as a critique of oppressive systems and the impact they have on individuals. The novel also touches on themes of redemption and forgiveness, as both Holi and Xaine must confront their pasts and make choices that will define their futures.
In terms of writing style, Mae's prose is engaging and evocative. She has a talent for creating vivid imagery and emotional depth, drawing readers into the world she has crafted. The pacing of the novel is well-balanced, with moments of tension and introspection interspersed with action and romance. Mae's ability to maintain this balance keeps the reader invested in the story from beginning to end.
Comparatively, Collateral Omega shares thematic similarities with other works in the omegaverse genre, such as Aiden Bates' Omega's Heart and Susi Hawke's Omega's Destiny. However, Mae's novel stands out due to its focus on character development and the exploration of societal issues. While many omegaverse stories center primarily on romance, Collateral Omega offers a more nuanced narrative that delves into the complexities of identity and power.
Overall, Collateral Omega is a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant novel that will appeal to fans of the omegaverse genre and beyond. Hope Mae has crafted a story that is both entertaining and meaningful, with characters that linger in the reader's mind long after the final page is turned. Whether you are drawn to tales of romance, drama, or social commentary, this book offers a rich and rewarding reading experience.
