Canadian Wild: Love
by Tamrin Banks
Lizzie Montgomery:
I’m ready to roar! I’ve been taking a backseat to my husband our whole married life. We never went anywhere because he didn’t want to. I wanted to travel and see the world! Something different!
Then my now ex-husband decided to fool around and get his barely twenty-something girlfriend knocked up. Now I’m starting over at thirty and the first thing I want to do, is go explore the world! So I book a vacation in a hotel in the wilds of Canada. Lovely hiking trails and stunning scenery all around me soothe my aching, dented heart and give me hope that life goes on. No matter how much you’ve been hurt.
It’s perfect. Until I get separated from my hiking group and hopelessly lost in the woods. I can’t even breathe let alone roar. The final straw is when a huge storm rolls in and washes away everything around me and leaves me stranded and terrified. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do.
Until Emile shows up to find me. Now I’m just wondering what’s making this gorgeous guy with the stormy dark blue eyes so dang grumpy!
Emile Gagnon:
Retreating into the mountains gave me exactly what I needed after a messy end to my marriage. My wife wrecked me. Convinced me to give up my life as a trucker so that I was home every night with her. Then she cheated on me with a co-worker.
Now I’m self-sufficient and happy in the mountains. The hotel nearby and some other small businesses occasionally call me to track down a wandering tourist that’s gotten separated from their group. Which is how I end up finding Lizzie.
Red hair, mouthy and curvy as all get out, she’s a nightmare for me. I don’t want to be attracted to any woman ever again. It doesn’t help that Lizzie is thirteen years younger than me. So she’s too gorgeous and too young for me. She’s also the smartest, sweetest woman I’ve ever met and it’s incredibly hard to walk away from her and go home alone.
We’re different people from completely different places, both of us a little bruised and broken from bad relationships. For some reason, we can’t seem to stay away from each other. How do we make things work when we’re from such different worlds?

Tamrin Banks' Canadian Wild: Love is a compelling exploration of personal rediscovery and unexpected romance set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Canadian wilderness. This novel deftly combines themes of healing, empowerment, and the unpredictable nature of love, making it a captivating read for anyone who has ever felt lost and found themselves in the most unlikely of places.
The story begins with Lizzie Montgomery, a woman in her thirties who is determined to reclaim her life after a painful divorce. Her journey is one of self-discovery, and Banks does a commendable job of portraying Lizzie's transformation from a woman who has lived in the shadow of her husband's desires to someone who is ready to embrace her own dreams. Lizzie's decision to travel to Canada is symbolic of her desire to break free from the constraints of her past life, and her character is both relatable and inspiring. Her initial vulnerability is palpable, and readers will find themselves rooting for her as she navigates the challenges of her new life.
Emile Gagnon, the rugged and reclusive hero of the story, is equally compelling. His retreat into the mountains following his own marital betrayal is a testament to his need for solitude and healing. Emile's character is a study in contrasts; he is both gruff and gentle, a man who has been hurt but is still capable of deep compassion. The chemistry between Lizzie and Emile is electric, and Banks skillfully develops their relationship with a balance of tension and tenderness. The age difference between them adds an interesting dynamic, challenging societal norms and expectations about love and compatibility.
The Canadian wilderness is more than just a setting in this novel; it is a character in its own right. Banks' vivid descriptions of the landscape create a sense of awe and wonder, and the natural beauty of the mountains serves as a metaphor for the emotional journey of the protagonists. The wilderness is both a place of danger and refuge, reflecting the tumultuous yet healing nature of Lizzie and Emile's relationship. The storm that leaves Lizzie stranded is a pivotal moment in the story, symbolizing the chaos and unpredictability of life, and it is through this adversity that Lizzie and Emile's bond is forged.
One of the novel's strengths is its exploration of the theme of second chances. Both Lizzie and Emile are given the opportunity to rebuild their lives and find happiness after heartbreak. Their journey is a reminder that it is never too late to start over and that love can be found in the most unexpected places. Banks' portrayal of their emotional struggles is both realistic and empathetic, and readers will appreciate the authenticity of their experiences.
In terms of character development, Banks excels at creating multidimensional characters who are flawed yet endearing. Lizzie's transformation from a passive participant in her own life to a woman who takes charge of her destiny is particularly well done. Emile's gradual opening up to the possibility of love again is equally satisfying, and his internal conflict is portrayed with nuance and depth. The supporting characters, though not as prominently featured, add richness to the story and provide a sense of community and belonging.
Comparatively, Canadian Wild: Love shares thematic similarities with other contemporary romance novels that explore the healing power of nature and the resilience of the human spirit. Fans of authors like Robyn Carr and Susan Mallery will find much to enjoy in Banks' storytelling. However, Banks' unique voice and the vivid Canadian setting set this novel apart, offering readers a fresh perspective on familiar themes.
Overall, Canadian Wild: Love is a beautifully written and emotionally resonant novel that will appeal to readers who enjoy stories of personal growth and unexpected romance. Tamrin Banks has crafted a tale that is both heartwarming and thought-provoking, and her characters' journey will stay with readers long after the final page is turned. This book is a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit, and it is sure to find a cherished place in the hearts of its readers.
