Bandit's Bounty
by Darlene Tallman
Welcome back to Redwich, where two clubs, ruled by two brothers, reside in the same county! Nefarious things are going on, of course, and they continue to frustrate both clubs as well as the women they find as their mates. This is Bandit and Sloane’s story; a first look piece featuring the initial 10,000 or so words was in TNTNC’s “Scorned” Anthology. This is the expanded version!
Bandit
Ever since some of my brothers have found their mates, who happen to be witches, things have heated up in Redwich as far as unknown enemies gunning for the club. Prophecies are being foretold and signs are being revealed, but not fully, which has the presidents of both clubs growly. Since we’re on a soft lockdown, friends of the club have to come to us, which is how she walked into my life.
Sloane.
A human.
And my mate.
Sloane
It took two years to overcome the shame and humiliation I felt when a guy I was dating, a shifter in a motorcycle club no less, cheated on me, then berated me in front of his club. Thanks to a well-meaning professor, I sought therapy and have worked hard to build my apothecary business. Two of my best customers happen to be mated to the two presidents of the clubs located in Redwich, and I suspect my time has run out as far as seeing him again.
Instead, I meet another biker, only this one is solely focused on me and says I’m his mate. Since I’m human, I’m not sure how that’s going to work, but decide to take a chance on love after being scorned.

Darlene Tallman's Bandit's Bounty invites readers back to the intriguing world of Redwich, a place where the supernatural and the gritty reality of motorcycle clubs intersect. This novel, an expanded version of a piece initially featured in the “Scorned” Anthology, delves into the lives of Bandit and Sloane, offering a narrative rich with romance, suspense, and the complexities of destiny.
The setting of Redwich is a character in itself, a county where two motorcycle clubs, led by brothers, coexist amidst a backdrop of mystery and danger. Tallman skillfully crafts an environment that is both familiar and otherworldly, with prophecies and unknown enemies adding layers of tension and intrigue. This setting serves as the perfect stage for the unfolding drama between Bandit and Sloane.
Bandit, a member of one of these clubs, is a character caught in the crossfire of supernatural prophecies and club politics. His life takes a significant turn when he meets Sloane, a human who unexpectedly becomes his mate. Tallman portrays Bandit as a complex character, torn between his loyalty to his club and his newfound connection with Sloane. His internal struggle is palpable, making him a relatable figure for readers who appreciate depth and nuance in their protagonists.
Sloane, on the other hand, is a character defined by resilience and growth. Her backstory of overcoming a toxic relationship with a shifter and building her apothecary business adds a layer of realism to the narrative. Sloane's journey from shame and humiliation to empowerment and love is a testament to Tallman's ability to create strong, relatable female characters. Her decision to take a chance on love with Bandit, despite her human limitations, is both courageous and inspiring.
The chemistry between Bandit and Sloane is electric, with Tallman expertly weaving their romance into the larger narrative of club rivalries and supernatural threats. Their relationship is not without its challenges, as Sloane grapples with the implications of being a human mate in a world dominated by shifters and witches. This dynamic adds a layer of tension and excitement, keeping readers engaged as they root for the couple's success.
One of the standout themes in Bandit's Bounty is the concept of destiny and choice. The prophecies and signs that permeate the narrative serve as a reminder of the characters' lack of control over certain aspects of their lives. However, Tallman balances this with the theme of personal agency, as both Bandit and Sloane make conscious decisions to fight for their love and their future. This interplay between fate and free will adds depth to the story, encouraging readers to reflect on their own lives and choices.
In terms of character development, Tallman excels in creating multidimensional characters who evolve throughout the story. Bandit's transformation from a club member focused solely on his duties to a man willing to embrace love and vulnerability is particularly compelling. Similarly, Sloane's journey from a scorned woman to a confident partner is both realistic and empowering. These character arcs are a testament to Tallman's skill in crafting believable and relatable narratives.
Comparatively, Bandit's Bounty shares thematic similarities with other works in the paranormal romance genre, such as J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series and Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series. Like these authors, Tallman blends romance with elements of fantasy and suspense, creating a captivating and immersive reading experience. However, Tallman's focus on the dynamics of motorcycle clubs adds a unique twist, setting her work apart from others in the genre.
Overall, Bandit's Bounty is a compelling addition to the world of paranormal romance. Darlene Tallman has crafted a story that is both thrilling and heartwarming, with characters who resonate long after the final page. The novel's exploration of love, destiny, and personal growth makes it a must-read for fans of the genre. Whether you're a longtime follower of Tallman's work or a newcomer to the world of Redwich, Bandit's Bounty promises an unforgettable journey filled with passion, danger, and hope.
