7 Dirty Lies
by Alexis Anne
It was right out of one of my movies:
Tropical island, sexy single man, two hot nights of nameless passion.
Except instead of falling into each other’s arms, we went our separate ways, never to be seen again.
Of course I thought about him all the time. The way he laughed, the way he saw right through me, the way he took no shit as his strong hands roamed my body. If there was one night I could repeat, it would be that one.
I never expected to see my mystery man again.
Fast forward to my new movie set and the handsome property owner. Yep, same guy. Same sexy, sexy guy. Our chemistry is still off the charts but there’s one tiny problem: he doesn’t trust me.
Okay, so I skipped a few important details. I don’t blame the guy. But they were just little white lies. Unfortunately if I want that movie-perfect ending I’m going to have to set the record straight…and hopefully have a little fun in the process.

Alexis Anne’s 7 Dirty Lies is a tantalizing romance that draws readers into a world of passion, secrets, and the complexities of human relationships. Set against the backdrop of a tropical island and later a movie set, the novel explores themes of trust, identity, and the consequences of deception. With its engaging narrative and well-drawn characters, this book offers a compelling read for fans of contemporary romance.
The story begins with a classic romantic setup: a chance encounter on a tropical island between two strangers leads to a whirlwind of passion. The protagonist, whose perspective we follow, is a woman who finds herself captivated by a mysterious man. Their chemistry is palpable, and the brief, intense connection they share is reminiscent of the fleeting yet profound encounters often depicted in romance novels. However, unlike many stories where such encounters lead to immediate happily-ever-afters, Anne takes a different route by having the characters part ways, leaving readers with a sense of longing and anticipation.
Fast forward to the protagonist's new movie set, where she unexpectedly reunites with her island lover, who turns out to be the property owner. This twist not only reignites their chemistry but also introduces a new layer of complexity to their relationship. The protagonist's initial omission of certain truths—her "little white lies"—creates a barrier of mistrust that she must navigate to achieve the romantic resolution she desires.
One of the most compelling aspects of 7 Dirty Lies is its exploration of trust and deception. The protagonist’s journey is not just about rekindling a romance but also about confronting the lies she has told and understanding the impact they have on her relationships. This theme is particularly relevant in today’s world, where authenticity and transparency are highly valued yet often difficult to achieve. Anne skillfully portrays the protagonist’s internal struggle as she grapples with the consequences of her actions and strives to earn back the trust of the man she desires.
Character development is another strength of the novel. The protagonist is a well-rounded character whose motivations and insecurities are explored in depth. Her initial decision to withhold certain truths is relatable, as it stems from a desire to protect herself and maintain control over her life. However, as the story progresses, she learns that true intimacy requires vulnerability and honesty. This character arc is both believable and satisfying, as it reflects a realistic journey of personal growth.
The male lead, while initially shrouded in mystery, is gradually revealed to be more than just a handsome stranger. His skepticism and reluctance to trust the protagonist add tension to the narrative, creating a dynamic interplay between the characters. As readers learn more about his past and his reasons for guarding his heart, they gain a deeper understanding of his character and the stakes involved in their relationship.
Anne’s writing style is engaging and evocative, with vivid descriptions that bring the settings to life. The tropical island serves as a lush, romantic backdrop for the initial encounter, while the movie set provides a contrasting environment that highlights the challenges of maintaining a relationship in the public eye. The author’s ability to create a sense of place enhances the overall reading experience, immersing readers in the world of the characters.
In terms of pacing, the novel strikes a balance between moments of intense emotion and quieter, introspective scenes. The chemistry between the protagonists is electric, and their interactions are charged with tension and desire. At the same time, Anne allows for moments of reflection and character development, ensuring that the romance is grounded in emotional depth rather than mere physical attraction.
Comparatively, 7 Dirty Lies shares thematic similarities with other contemporary romances that explore the complexities of love and trust, such as Colleen Hoover’s It Ends with Us or Christina Lauren’s Love and Other Words. However, Anne’s novel distinguishes itself through its unique setting and the specific challenges faced by the characters. The blend of romance and personal growth, coupled with the element of deception, creates a narrative that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Overall, 7 Dirty Lies is a captivating romance that delves into the intricacies of trust and the power of truth. Alexis Anne has crafted a story that is both steamy and emotionally resonant, offering readers a satisfying journey of love and redemption. For those who enjoy romance novels that combine passion with depth, this book is a must-read.
